FreeRice
November 13, 2007 3:20 pm En Vrac -- Misc. StuffFreeRice has grown popular dramatically since last time I wrote about it (no, it’s not thanks to me that this happened).
In my previous post about FreeRice, I concluded after a few calculations (and being corrected by one of my commentators), that one needs to play an average of 200 minutes daily to guarantee feeding one person for a whole year. Or that 10 persons play for 20 minutes each, daily.
Check out the totals of donations made through FreeRice so far, *we* have reached a stunning 1 519 627 180 grains of rice! A total of 202 persons hunger-free in 5 weeks!
Last time I said that FreeRice donated over 3 500 000 grains of rice daily, but this amount has increased greatly. Imagine that thanks to yesterday’s donations only, 25 persons -somewhere in the world- would know that they shouldn’t worry about their food for a whole year! Or 50 persons for 6 months, or 100 for 3 months, whatever makes you happy.
I suggested to FreeRice to design chicklets to put on blogs to promote their idea, but I am still waiting for their reply if they ever got my message.
By the way, what’s the highest level you could ever reach in the vocabulary game? I remember I reached 40 something, I am now working on 50. ;)

Its nice to donate few grains, but here is how you could make a real difference - Join the FaceBook group
Free Rice Helpers where you could download a small program that answers the questions for you! Just run it and watch your pile of rice growing. It even “presses” the ads links once in while so everyone will be happy :) Dont forget to spread the word - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7357688972

Thank you for the heads up noga. I am not a FaceBook person, but if I get the chance to come around, I’ll join the group for sure.
I am disappointed though to realize that the ‘great’ donations I was talking about, were made by ’scripts’, not by humans.
